Cakes!

Here are some character sheets I did for my concept class! We had to take the story of Athena and Arachne and adapt it into a different story. Basically the story of Arachne is about how bragging is bad and will get you turned into a spider. I decided to take out the spider and put in some cakes, because cakes are easier to look at.

And here's the animatic! The date is wrong. I was putting this together very early in the morning, so it says 2010 instead of 2011, but I made this animatic this year, I swear.

Digital Drawing!

I've been so bad at updating my blog, but it's not because I'm not drawing! I think I've improved a lot this semester as far as digital drawing goes.

This is fanart. The Borders in Sarasota was having a huge closing sale, so over spring break I bought waaaay too many books. It reminded me how much I love reading. In honor of redheads and young adult fantasy, I drew some of my favorite redheads from my favorite young adult fantasy books. The characters are Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter, Gemma Doyle from The Gemma Doyle trilogy, Clary from The Mortal Instruments, and Alanna from The Song of the Lioness quartet.

This is Buffy, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Seriously, Buffy is my favorite TV show ever. The drawing's not perfect, but I like it anyway.

This is a still from one of my animatics. I don't know, I like it. I had a lot of fun with this character.

I'm going to try to update my blog twice a month from now on! I didn't make any new years resolutions, so that's my late new years resolution.

Winter Break!

The fall semester is finally done! Here are some random sketches I did. The first lady is a zombie flapper. I might put up some of my animations later. Happy Holidays!

Summer Sketchbook

Summer is over, and I'm back at Ringling! I bought an off brand moleskin to fill up over the summer, and I only filled it up 3/4ths of the way. Here are some of my favorite sketches from the summer!

These are sketches of a character from the book/musical Les Miserables.

I decided to sketch some glamorous drawings of women from the 20's/30's. Unfortunately, I bought some fancy markers that bled through from the other side. The blue in that flapper's hair was not intentional.

There's the blue that bled through! the cats on the right are my cats! I miss them already!

Some expressions on the left. The boy on the right is a sketch of my brother. I miss him too!

My family and I went to Wyoming for vacation this summer, and we saw the Grand Tetons. I sat and sketched them in the cold. My hands were freezing afterwards!

This was in Wyoming too.

I played Dungeons and Dragons for the first time this summer! Probably not something I will be doing again, but it was really fun creating my character. My character is named Luscious, she's a professional yodeler and lute player, and she has a precise wand of color spray!

I interned at the Lawrence Arts Center this summer for the Summer Youth Theater program (SYT). You really have to love theater to spend your summer in a cold basement instead of at the pool! Thankfully, I'll take theater over the pool any day. This is a sketch of the vending machine's in the basement, some questions that the director had the cast answer, and a list of the songs in Hair.

This page is a little boring, but I really enjoyed some of the sketches. Katy Perry is at the top of the right page. I love her! Underneath her is a picture of Lisbeth Salander from the book Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Underneath her is a picture of Draco Malfoy making fun of Batman.

A panel came every Tuesday to talk to the cast about the 60's. The guy with the speech bubbles was quite the character, so I had to draw him!

I don't know why my text is suddenly underlined, but these are portraits of some of the kids who did Hair. I only had time to do a few; I hope nobody feels left out! You were all very talented, and the show was AMAZING!

Sketches from the school year

These are some sketches I did during my second semester of college. One of the best things about going to Ringling is being able to learn from your peers. I go to school with some effin' AWESOME artists, and it's so much fun to look at all their different art styles.

The last page was drawn at the question and answer session with Don Hahn during the Sarasota Film Festival. That was probably the highlight of my year! Don Hahn is the producer of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the associate producer of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Basically, he produced some of the movies that made me want to be an animator! He talked about the need to take risks, and he said that one of the reasons he loved college students is because they aren't blinded by limitations. Afterwards, he signed my sketchbook and drew a little picture of himself in the lower right corner!

I miss Ringling so much.
